About the Blog

Panning for Gold is a place for women to share their experiences and ways they learn to live with, and beyond, a cancer diagnosis.

Our blog is open to women living in the UK who have had a primary or secondary diagnosis of breast cancer and those that have completed their treatment.

We aim to

  • provide an inclusive space which represents the many voices of women with a breast cancer diagnosis.

  • share findings on research on how we can promote psychological resilience after a breast cancer diagnosis, in a clear and accessible way

  • celebrate the many achievements of women who are living with or beyond a breast cancer diagnosis.

Breast cancer is a complex disease which affects women in many different ways and brings with it a host of feelings as well as life-changing experiences.

Many women choose to write to express their feelings about cancer and their treatment or use it as a channel to update friends and family about their progress. It can also be an enormous source of comfort and strength.

Everyone touched by breast cancer has a story to tell. Our hope is that the blog becomes an insightful collection of voices which highlights the complexity of our different experiences and how we live with and beyond our diagnosis.

Building Resilience in Breast Cancer

The BRiC Centre (Building Resilience in Breast Cancer) was founded by Professor Nazanin Derakhshan, a Professor of Psychology at Birkbeck University of London, to empower women diagnosed with primary or secondary breast cancer to find the right tools to build their resilience in managing the many challenges that come with diagnosis and treatment.

BRiC conducts cutting edge research using neuroscience methods to find better ways in helping women manage and minimise the psychological impact of breast cancer diagnosis and treatment and improve their quality of life. BRiC has won awards for its research, public engagement, outreach, and impact. To learn more about research and our research team visit our website.

In 2018, BRiC was officially recognised as a Centre for Research and Practice of Resilience in Breast Cancer at Birkbeck University of London, UK.

BRiC has a private network of over 2200 women with a primary or secondary breast cancer diagnosis, from all over the UK. This is a safe place for women to share their experiences. To join our private network go here:
